Kate Moss is a real style icon, there's no doubt about it! Looking good is also essential for her career. Earlier this week Moss has written a column for a leading Irish newspaper, the Irish Independent. In the column she lists her top tips for being well-dressed, and Kate definitely knows a thing or two about how to present herself, I mean I've never seen her look bad!
Although the column is a definite must-read, I've outlined the five most significant tips from her column.
Choose a Fashion era: ''I really love the late Sixties and Seventies, around the time of The Rolling Stones" Kate explains that having an fashion era to inspire you in the back of your head while you're picking out what to wear is quite important. "I don't channel it in everything i wear but it does seem to feed through most outfits. It's important to have some inspiration or a reference point when you're dressing."
Style is more important than following trends. Kate says that it's often other people who notice you have a signature style. But ''even if you do tend to wear the same things all the time, it's how you wear them and your attitude that counts.'' If you find a look that works for you, stick to it. Kate is at her most comfortable in jeans and a blazer, she's also feeling flare jeans at the moment but she still loves her skinny jeans. ''Dressing is like modelling - you can constantly adapt and change.''
Accesories are key-items, "but wearing too many accessories at once can look very bad." Kate writes she always turns to scarves, sunglasses and hats, she doesn't have strict rules when it comes to that. Although, she mentions "my husband does say not to wear a hat with glasses, because I look as if I'm trying to wear a disguise." So, don't wear sunglasses with hats!
Beauty is pain "I prefer to be comfortable, and sometimes fancy wearing flat shoes -I feel you Kate- , but there are definitely occasions where you've just got to go with heels." Fashion is not comfortable. We just need to suck it up and torture ourselves for the sake of fashion. "It's important to be well-presented than to be comfortable."
Always plan ahead for big events. ''If you're going to an important dinner, you should plan what you're going to wear, as you don't want to look silly. If I'm going to an event, I make sure I plan ahead, so that I don't have a fashion crisis.'' But, don't stress when you're planning your day-to-day outfits. Kate dresses depending on her mood.
