Fashion Highlights of 2013

Tonight we'll be counting down a new year. While you're probably prepping up for a party (or maybe already there), let's look back at the highlights of this year in fashion.

Samiya Cusman

Met Ball 2013
On the one of the most important yearly events went down in New York City.
Im talking about the The MET Gala 2013 which was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's in New York. It's the gala where the Hollywood and Fashion-industry elite come together to celebrate an exhibition. This year they celebrated the museum's new exhibition PUNK: from Chaos to Couture. And so the night has as dress-code Punk, to suite with the exhibition.

Isabel Marant X H&M
After collaborating with Versace, Marni and last year with Maison Martin Margiela, the Swedish-retailer, H&M, collaborated this year with french designer, Isabel Marant. And as expected, the every single piece of the coveted collection was sold out online in 45 minutes!

Marc Jacobs leaving Louis Vuitton
On the 2nd of October, 2013 Marc Jacobs did his last show for French fashion-house, Louis Vuitton. He ended his 16-year-long career to focus on his own brand. The last show was dedicated to all the women that inspired him. The show also included pieces of his first show, such as a carousel, a large clock and a fountain.
Marc Jacobs has turned Louis Vuitton from the classic luggage and accessory brand to one of the bestselling luxury brands in the 16 years he was in charge.

Nicolas Ghesquière new artistic director of Louis Vuitton
Soon after Marc Jacobs' resignation at the french fashion-house rumors were twirling all over the web about Nicolas Ghesquière taking over Marc's previous job.
''Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration.'' said Ghesquière. ''I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.''
Nicolas' first collection was the autumn/winter 2014 collection which was shown in March.

The annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
The annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is the one show I really look forward to! This is not just an ordinary fashion show, with a minimalism backdrop. It's a fashionshow with the best music, the most beautiful models and the most spectacular lingerie!

Model of the Year
Edie Campbell was honored this year with the prestigious Model of the Year award at the British Fashion Award.

The Face
Three supermodel coaches compete with each other while finding The Face of a major brand. Executive producer Naomi Campbell is one of those coaches, she has now done 2 seasons in The US and United Kingdom, believe it's better than every modelling you're watching. 4 (!) New seasons are coming up in 2014 in France, Canada, Australia and again in The US!

Diversity in the modeling industry
Modeling agent Bethann Hardison was joined by supermodels Iman and Naomi Campbell for her Balance Diversity campaign. Hardison sent out letters to the American, British, French and Italian fashion-councils naming all brands/fashion-houses who don't use non-Caucasian models in their shows.
''You know, this is not the business of shaming,'' Iman said on Good Morning America. ''And as we go back again to clarify it, nobody is calling any of these designers racist. The act itself is racism.''

Prada casts its first black model since 1994
Malaika Firth a 19-year-old Kenya-born British beaut was the first black model in a Prada Campaign sicne almost 20 years. That was the year Malaika firth was born and Naomi Campbell was then face for a Prada campaign.

PIRELLI calendar 2013
First thing you might notice of the Pirelli 2013 Calendar is that there aren't any nudes. The Pirelli calendars are mostly famed for the nude shot. 12 Models striped down last year for Mario Testino for the 2012 issue. This year american photographer Steve McCurry, known for his ''Afghan Girl'', striked 11 fully-clothed models, singers and actresses like Karlie Kloss, Isabeli Fontana, a pregnant Adriana Lima, Elisa Sednaoui and Petra Nemcova.
McCury wanted to show that women can be sexy even if they're fully-clothed.
The calendar includes also photographs of the regular Brazilian people and street art.
Al the models have something something in common, even though they're not all Brazilian, they are all involved in charitable or humanitarian work.
